Summit Health was founded in 1999 by Richard Penington and Doug Finch, to address a need for high quality, low cost, preventative health services provided on a nationwide basis. We now have more than 12,000 staff nationwide, and count the country’s largest health plans and Fortune 100 corporations among our customer base.
Richard and Doug were classmates at the Harvard Business School, and both have advanced degrees and work experience in engineering. Richard’s experience includes designing complex supply chain management and information technology systems for Fortune 100 consumer products companies. Doug has extensive experience in the aerospace/military industry and has served more than ten years on the board of a large Midwestern hospital system. Their unique backgrounds have allowed them to engineer and perfect every aspect of a nationwide health care delivery system including staff development, logistics, clinic execution, data collection, and performance metrics. Summit Health’s Medical Advisory Board and key clinical staff further helped design and fine tune the medical procedures and protocols.
Previously, as president of Interactive Health Services, Richard created novel approaches for delivering accessible health care services to the consumer, both in the retail environment and at on-site corporate clinics. Out of these models came the standardization of quality, flawless customer experience, simplified pricing, and data integration that have become the hallmarks of Summit Health.
In 2004, Summit Health acquired the Wellness Division of Interim Health Services, the nation’s largest provider of home health care and medical staffing. Summit Health has achieved its continued growth without any outside investment, and has reinvested all profits back into the company for the good of our key stakeholders: our customers and employees. Over the years, we have held true to our mission and vision of improving lives through prevention and education, and have been able to give back to the community with free screenings and donated vaccines.
