Learn about the following cosmetic surgery procedures and if they might be the right fit for you
If you want to enhance the size, contour, and feel of your breasts, breast augmentation surgery may be right for you. The goal of breast augmentation is to use implants to create fuller, more natural-looking breasts to boost your self-confidence and to give your clothes a better fit.
Also called breast enlargement surgery, the procedure will:
- Increase breast size in women who feel their breasts are too small
- Increase breast volume that has been lost as a result of aging, weight loss, or breast feeding and pregnancy
- Correct slightly sagging breasts (For most women with noticeable sagging breasts, however, a Breast Lift or Breast Lift With Implants is required)
- Restore breasts to a normal appearance after mastectomy (see Breast Reconstruction)
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that can dramatically reduce a protruding abdomen and help your clothes fit better. The surgeon removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and sometimes the middle abdomen, while also tightening the abdominal muscles.
Pregnancy, obesity, and age can loosen the skin of the abdomen and cause the muscles to lose tone. The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men and women who are in relatively good shape but have loose skin, excess stomach fat, and/or stretched abdominal muscles that cannot be corrected with weight loss or exercise.
If you plan to lose a significant amount of weight, you should postpone a tummy tuck until you have achieved a normal, healthy weight for your height. If you plan on becoming pregnant, you also should postpone a tummy tuck because the vertical muscles that are tightened during the procedure can separate again during pregnancy. Note that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure and is not a substitute for proper diet and regular exercise.
Many patients express concern that their faces will look too tight, or they have known someone who had a facelift that lasted no more than a few months. Unfortunately, some surgeons do not address the underlying cause of the signs of aging – sagging of the underlying structures of the face. Think of it this way: If you have a lumpy mattress, it won’t matter how tightly you pull the sheet over that mattress. It will still look lumpy. Similarly, if a surgeon makes the outer layer of skin tighter without tightening and shaping the under-structure of the face, the facelift results will be less than satisfactory.
Our surgeons carefully evaluate the anatomy of your face to determine what exactly has caused the signs of aging. We then create a custom-tailored facelift surgical plan that is largely architectural in design. It is as much an art as it is a science. The muscles of the face are safely tightened so that the facelift and/or neck lift will not only look better in the short term but will also last for years.
Nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) is one of the most common cosmetic procedures. In the early days of rhinoplasty, surgeons universally shaved down the bone, removed cartilage, and gave everyone a “cute” upturned nose. Today, people are interested in a nose that fits their personality as well as the unique proportions and features of their face. They want a natural look that does not look like a “nose job”.
At Summit Health, rhinoplasty is highly individualized. We take into account the entirety of your face and make recommendations as to what will look best on you. For example, a celebrity’s nose might look great on his or her face but not nearly as attractive on your face. This is why we offer imaging technology so that you can see how different types of changes would look on your face from both a front view and in profile.
The results of rhinoplasty can be subtle or dramatic, depending on how you want to look. The best outcome is a natural-looking nose that is well-balanced for your face.
This procedure uses your own body’s fat to enhance your buttocks, creating a more balanced, natural appearance. By harvesting fat from areas such as the abdomen or flanks via liposuction, the fat is purified and then re-injected into the buttocks for enhanced volume and contour. The result is a lifted and shapelier backside, with the added benefit of slimming down areas where the fat was removed.
Our skilled surgeons tailor each BBL procedure to meet the unique goals and needs of every patient. Whether you're looking for a subtle enhancement or a more dramatic transformation, our experienced team is committed to delivering beautiful, natural-looking results.
Liposuction (or lipoplasty) is the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States. It is surgery that removes unwanted fat from specific areas, improving the contours of your body. The most frequently treated areas include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, upper arms, neck, and chin.
The plastic surgeons at Summit Health have extensive experience performing liposuction, and it is our philosophy to be straightforward with our patients about what the procedure can and cannot accomplish. We want you to have realistic expectations so that you will be happy with your result.
Liposuction is not a weight loss or cellulite-reducing technique. Viable candidates for the surgery are near their ideal body weight, but they have areas where localized fat has accumulated and has not responded to exercise or dietary changes. These pockets of excess fat cause the body to look out of proportion. Liposuction can improve the body’s proportions and create a smoother contour.
