About Me
Bailey Zampella, DO is a member of Summit Health’s neurosurgery team. Dr. Zampella specializes in functional and restorative neurosurgery, which includes procedures such as deep brain stimulation, focused ultrasound, epilepsy surgery, spinal cord stimulation, microvascular decompression for cranial nerve compression, and the implantation of intrathecal infusion pumps. These procedures treat a variety of conditions such as Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, epilepsy resistant to medication, trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm, chronic neuropathic pain, and spasticity. Dr. Zampella chose to pursue this subspecialty of neurosurgery because of the satisfaction she gets helping patients regain control of their lives and everyday activities.
Dr. Zampella is also an expert in the surgical removal of benign and malignant brain tumors, intradural spinal tumors, intracerebral/subdural/epidural hemorrhage, and hydrocephalus.
She also treats patients with cervical and lumbar disc herniation and spinal stenosis.
Being patient centric is Dr. Zampella’s primary focus, and patient interaction, as well as the opportunity to help and provide hope, are her favorite aspects of patient care. “Psychological and emotional experience during treatment is critically important to achieving the best outcomes,” she says adding, “I prioritize building strong connections and ensuring that each patient understands their diagnosis as well as their treatment options, whether surgical or non-operative.”
During her training, Dr. Zampella participated in medical missions to Africa to provide neurosurgical services to the people of Liberia who would otherwise never have had an opportunity to be treated for their cranial and spinal maladies. She intends to continue this work during her career at Summit Health.
In her limited free time, Dr. Zampella enjoys road cycling, exploring the outdoors, domestic and international travel, enjoying live music, and adding to her collection of vinyl records.
