About Me
Domenico Savatta, MD, has been practicing in West Orange, NJ, since 2003. He strives to care for each patient as he would a family member. Whether the problem is easy to fix or complicated, he understands the patient’s concerns and will tailor the treatment plan for each patient’s individual needs.
He graduated Tau Beta Pi and summa cum laude from The Cooper Union for Advancement of Science and Art with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1993. He then attended SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and was an American Osteopathic Association graduate. Afterwards, he completed a six-year residency in urology at the prestigious Indiana University Medical Center, which is world-renowned for the treatment of testicular cancer and other urologic malignancies.
Dr. Savatta’s practice is devoted to adult urology, with a focus on the treatment of enlarged prostate (BPH), prostate cancer, and other urologic cancers. He started performing robotic surgery in 2004 by utilizing his background in engineering and completing open and laparoscopic surgical training from Indiana University. He self-taught robotic surgery in 2004, before there were any organized robotic training programs. He became one of the first in the country to perform many of the robotic surgeries that are still performed today including robotic simple prostatectomy for BPH in 2005.
In 2006, Dr. Savatta was the first daVinci® S robotic instructor in the northeast. He performed a live robotic prostatectomy in 2006 and became the first person in the world to perform a televised robotic surgery for kidney cancer in 2007. He has published papers with national leaders describing how to perform robotic inguinal hernia surgery during robotic prostatectomy and robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer.
In the last decade, Dr. Savatta has focused on helping to minimize side effects in the treatment and diagnosis of prostate cancer and BPH. He brought transperineal prostate sampling to replace prostate biopsy for the diagnosis of prostate cancer and has pioneered a new type of robotic prostatectomy- space of retzius sparing prostatectomy. He has been performing REZUM and urolift procedures for enlarged prostate since 2016 and received Center of Excellence Status for urolift.
Dr. Savatta is board-certified by the American Urological Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
