About Me

Janet Tufaro, MD is a member of Summit Health’s Family Medicine team. Dr. Tufaro has extensive experience working in health care focusing on primary and preventive care to the adult population.  She believes in treating every patient like a family member, meeting their immediate needs and guiding them to following a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Tufaro is especially passionate about ridding America of obesity, which is the root of diabetes, joint replacements, sleep apnea, cancer and premature death, to name a few. Other special interests involve interpreting blood work with patients so they can improve their lifestyle and habits. Comprehension of the results is very important so they can make educated changes.

Dr. Tufaro received her Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rome in Italy. Furthermore, she completed dual residencies, one in family medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Mid-Hudson Family Institute; and one in internal medicine at NY Hospital of Queens. She is a member of the American Board of Family Medicine and American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Tufaro says, "I decided to enter health care because my sister was in the field and she opened my eyes to helping others when I volunteered at Queens General Hospital as a teenager”.

When she is not working with her patients, Dr. Tufaro loves helping animal rescue foundations, painting landscapes, playing tennis and cross-country skiing.
