About Me
Jessica Kimmel, MD is a member of Summit Health’s Gastroenterology team. Dr. Kimmel is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Kimmel practices general gastroenterology, with a focus on colon cancer screening, reflux disease, and celiac disease, with a special clinical interest in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She is an attending physician at NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn, where she works with medical students, residents, and fellows. Her research has been presented at several national conferences and has been published in peer-reviewed journals on such topics as inflammatory bowel disease, motility, and medical student education.
Dr. Kimmel received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated magna cum laude. She then attended medical school at New York University School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, during which she was awarded the James R. Webster Jr. Award for superior clinical and humanitarian skills. She then completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kimmel is thorough in her approach to care, from gaining a detailed understanding of a patient’s symptoms, history, and concerns, to ensuring her explanations of diagnostic and treatment options are clear. Her approach advances her ultimate goal of forging a patient’s path to recovery. “Especially for patients with chronic medical conditions, I understand the value in a physician who listens, discusses treatment options, and follows them over time,” she says.
Dr. Kimmel is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Medical Association.
In her free time, she enjoys painting and traveling.
