About Me
Richard Honigman, MD, FAAP is a pediatrician who treats patients from infancy through age 22, specializing in both wellness and sick care. Dr. Honigman has a special interest and additional training in early life adversity, infant/parent mental health, social determinants and developmental origins of health and disease, particularly how these factors shape, sculpt and affect the expressions of our integrated bio-psycho-social systems over time.
Focusing on looking at the patient as a whole, Dr. Honigman’s philosophy of practice includes incorporating social-emotional and physical realms of health and illness as they are interrelated and affect each other. “I like to incorporate periodic social-emotional developmental screenings to assess wellness and/or problematic issues,” Dr. Honigman states.
Having the patient and parents leave the office with a greater understanding of themselves or their child so that there can be positive outcomes now and, in the future, is most important to Dr. Honigman. Interacting with the children and watching them grow and develop into healthy, successful adults is personally fulfilling to the doctor.
Dr. Honigman is especially passionate about his work with Reach Within, a NYC-Grenada based non-profit which works to improve outcomes for abuse/maltreated children on the Caribbean Island nation of Grenada. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Honigman enjoys live music events, photography, traveling the world and helping his wife pursue her show dog breeding career.
