The Summit Health Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Program was created for newly licensed Advanced Practice Nurses (Nurse Practitioners) and Physician Assistants to successfully prepare the APP’s transition to practice. As an adult nurse practitioner, I understand the transition of a new APP is both an exciting and challenging time. The medical field is complex and changing rapidly. Novice APPs can struggle with confidence, time management, and prioritization skills. This post graduate training program is the bridge between academia and practice.
The APP fellowship programs provides training in a supported environment to enhance the preparedness of new APP graduates entering a complex, interprofessional, team-based primary care delivery system. APP and physician collaboration will continue to be mutually dependent, as each of these providers rely on one another’s expertise to provide optimal care to our patients. Our 12-month fellowship program is a combination of didactic educational content, clinical supervision, and autonomous practice to strengthen and further develop your ability to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health conditions; provide patient-centered care; cultivate leadership; engage in performance improvement; and grow your population health skills.
The contributions of APPs at Summit Health cannot be overstated. APPs are essential to the patient-centered care model at Summit Health. Medicine is a team endeavor. We need to work collectively to meet the challenges of providing the best care possible to our patients and the best education possible to our fellows. We take this role very seriously. The APP fellowship program will provide a safe learning environment so you can advance the knowledge and skills from your academic program and develop into a well-rounded, confident advanced practice provider.
We recognize that there are other APP fellowship program options in the country. Why choose us? One simple answer – the people. We are passionate about what we do and whom we serve. Our mission is to reshape healthcare through the power of connection. Connection helps us to build relationships with our patients and our coworkers, provide the highest quality care by understanding what our communities need, and create a healthy workplace for our teams. Our vision is to build healthier, kinder communities. We do this by providing care that is accessible and focuses on both our patients and our team. You have so much to contribute as an advanced practice provider and we hope that you will help us further our mission and vision as an integral part of the Summit Health team.
Sincerely,
Dr. Beverly S. Karas-Irwin, DNP, MS, RN, NP-C, HNB-BC, NEA-BC, A.P.N.
