About Me
Erin Groover, LCSW, MSW is a member of Summit Health's Integrated Behavioral Health team in oncology. Ms. Groover provides individual and group therapy to adult cancer patients and their family members or caregivers. From initial diagnosis through survivorship, Ms. Groover works with individuals to help them cope with the emotional impact of their diagnosis, treatment, and living with a life altering disease. She is trained and experienced in offering counseling for advanced stage of illness and end-of-life care, including grief and bereavement. Additionally, Ms. Groover is trained in evidenced-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and meaning-centered psychotherapy for the treatment of adjustment disorders, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Ms. Groover provides a supportive, non-judgmental space where patients can discuss and explore their concerns. “My goal is to help my patients make changes in their lives and live in a way that brings them peace, contentment, purpose, and meaning, despite the challenges they face,” says Ms. Groover. “My patients and I work as a team to change negative thinking and behaviors, reconnect with personal strengths, apply coping skills, build resilience, and maximize emotional well-being.”
Post-graduate, Ms. Groover had a strong interest in end-of-life care. She worked as a social worker for hospice and home care agencies providing supportive counseling and case management services to terminally ill patients and their families in their homes. Before joining Summit Health in 2016, Ms. Groover worked for 14 years as a medical social worker for Atlantic Health Systems at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center covering inpatient oncology, critical care, and orthopedics.
When not working, Ms. Groover enjoys reading, photography, hiking, spending time in nature, and being in the company of family, friends and her dog, Floyd.
