About Me
Winnie M. Polen, DO, specializes in diagnosing and managing benign and malignant breast conditions. Dr. Polen performs sentinel lymph node mapping, full axillary lymph node dissection, localized needle excisional biopsy, lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, and total mastectomy. She also is adept at a wide range of breast biopsy procedures, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy and stereotactic breast biopsy. Dr. Polen collaborates with her colleagues in radiology, pathology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, and social work to help her patients get comprehensive care.
Before joining Summit Health, Dr. Polen was Director of the Great Lakes Naval Breast Care Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. As a US Naval officer and general surgeon at the Great Lakes Naval Medical Center and North Chicago Veterans Affairs Hospital, she increased services for patients and received commendations for excellence in patient care.
Dr. Polen is involved in breast cancer research and stays current on advances that can provide her patients the best outcomes. She has also delivered local, regional, and national invited presentations on topics including high-risk breast cancer patients. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, and Association of Women Surgeons. Dr. Polen has earned the Vitals.com Patients' Choice Award and MDx Medical Most Compassionate Doctor Award. She has also been featured in New Jersey Monthly “Top Doctors” listings.
