Ugonna Iroku, MD has expertise in gastroenterology, taking care of patients with a broad spectrum of conditions, including the need for screening for colorectal polyps and cancers, screening for esophagus and gastric cancers, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, internal and external hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding, change in bowel frequency with diarrhea or constipation, and inflammatory bowel disease. He provides state-of-the-art colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and as well oversees multiple other screening and treatment methods to reduce the risk of digestive diseases.

Dr. Iroku has a special interest in colorectal cancer screening including in the early onset demographic, as well as providing treatment and hemorrhoid management through multiple modalities including dietary, prescription and office procedure options.

During a patient visit, Dr. Iroku feels it is most important that the patient receive prompt attention, have accessibility to warm and caring staff, and receive durable results from any treatment plans. “My philosophy is that patient care must demonstrate empathy, excellence and be collaborative”, he says. Dr. Iroku also enjoys helping people attain their optimal health and gets satisfaction from thinking through and solving complicated clinical problems as well as reducing cancer risks with modern gastroenterology advances.

When he is not treating patients, he enjoys reading non-fiction, traveling, community service, spending time with family and friends, and supporting Chelsea Football Club of London. He is also passionate about creating awareness of colorectal cancer and methods of reducing these risks. Dr. Iroku co-founded the Association of Black Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists as a way to address issues of health inequality in the Black community.
