BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY, JULY 22, 2021Summit Health today announced the addition of two new members to its management company board of directors.  Kate Walsh, president and CEO of the Boston Medical Center (BMC) health system, and Todd Walthall, executive vice president and COO of Blue Shield of California, are newly appointed to the board of directors of the management company that guides Summit Health, the physician-led, patient-centric network formed by the 2019 merger between Summit Medical Group, a premier multispecialty physician group, and CityMD, a leader in urgent care. The combined organization, which has more than 2,000 providers, over 8,000 employees, and over 200 locations in New Jersey, New York, and Central Oregon, offers a full spectrum of high-quality primary, specialty, and urgent care.

About Kate WalshKate Walsh

Prior to her appointment at Boston Medical Center, Ms. Walsh served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She served previously as the chief operating officer for Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research and at Massachusetts General Hospital in positions, including senior vice president of medical services and the MGH Cancer Center. Prior to that, she held positions in several New York City hospitals, including Montefiore, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Saint Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Ms. Walsh received her Bachelor of Arts degree and a master’s degree in public health from Yale University. She has served as a member of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and currently serves on the boards of Boston Public Health Commission, the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, Pine Street Inn, and Yale University.

About Todd WalthallTodd Walthall

As the chief operating officer at Blue Shield of California, Mr. Walthall is accountable for management and performance of the company’s membership, customer support, and technology infrastructure, and for creating a compelling value proposition across key lines of business. Prior to Blue Shield of California, he was vice president and general manager of Digital Service Integration at American Express. Before that, he served as senior vice president, head of deposits and payments, and senior vice president of Channel Management at USAA. Mr. Walthall received a bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College. He is an active member of several boards, including California Association of Health Plans and Coaching Corps, which uses sport to inspire kids in the community to reach their full potential. He is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council.
