NEW YORK, NY — Summit Health today announced its continued expansion into Long Island with the addition of Central Nassau Pediatrics, a medical group practice located in Levittown, NY. The integration of Central Nassau Pediatrics further extends Summit Health’s presence in New York and offers existing and future patients in Long Island access to the very best in Pediatric care.

Dr. Richard Honigman, a pediatrician who treats patients from infancy through age 22 and specializes in both wellness and sick care, will lead the Summit Health Pediatric practice located at 3601 Hempstead Turnpike, Suite 416, in Levittown. The Levittown office also features Summit Health specialists in the areas of Allergy and Immunology, Audiology, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Podiatry and Radiology services.

In addition to Pediatric care, Dr. Honigman has a special interest—and additional training—in early life adversity, infant/parent mental health, social determinants and developmental origins of health and disease, particularly how these factors shape, sculpt and affect the expressions of an individual’s integrated bio-psycho-social system over time.

“Dr. Honigman shares the same Summit Health core values, which include focusing on looking at the patient as a whole,” said Dan Frogel, MD, Chief Medical Officer, New York Region at Summit Health. “I also appreciate his practice philosophy, which includes incorporating social-emotional and physical realms of health and illness as they are interrelated and affect each other. We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Honigman into the Summit Health family.”

“I like to incorporate periodic social-emotional developmental screenings to assess wellness and/or problematic issues,” said Dr. Honigman. “Having the patient and parents leave the office with a greater understanding of themselves or their child so that there can be positive outcomes now and, in the future, is most important to me. I also enjoy interacting with the children and watching them grow and develop into healthy, successful adults.”

Dr. Honigman is the first recipient of the 2019 Ed Tronick Award for Distinguished Contribution to Infant-Parent Mental Health of the alumni from the UMASS Boston Infant-Parent Mental Health post-graduate Fellowship Program. He has completed Bruce Perry’s Child Trauma Academy’s Phase 1 and 2 Neurosequential Certification, Chair of the NYS American Academy of Pediatrics Chapter 2 Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics Committee and is an active participant in Docs for Tots ACEs Learning Collaborative that has brought ACEs screening to pediatric offices across Long Island. Dr. Honigman is also especially passionate about his work with Reach Within, a NYC-Grenada based non-profit that works to improve outcomes for abuse/maltreated children on the Caribbean Island nation of Grenada.

Dr. Honigman received his Bachelor of Arts from New York University and his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Honigman performed his Pediatric internship with Nassau County Medical Center and completed his residency and fellowship at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center.
