Overview

Pelvic health plays a bigger role in your daily comfort and confidence than you might expect. At Summit Health, our female pelvic medicine team is here to help when things don't feel quite right. Our specialists focus on urogynecology and reconstructive surgery, offering both surgical and nonsurgical care for a wide range of conditions that affect the pelvic floor.

Many women live with symptoms like leakage, pressure, or discomfort because they think it's just part of aging or motherhood. It doesn't have to be. Our experienced physicians treat common concerns such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and fecal incontinence, along with a variety of cosmetic and functional issues. We take the time to understand your goals, explain your options clearly, and build a plan that fits your life.

Whether you need a simple, in-office solution or advanced reconstructive surgery, you'll find compassionate, expert care every step of the way.

Conditions and procedures

Our female pelvic medicine specialists diagnose and treat conditions that affect the muscles, ligaments, and organs of the pelvic floor. We offer personalized care that ranges from noninvasive therapies to minimally invasive reconstructive surgery.

Conditions we treat

  • Pelvic organ prolapse – when the uterus, vagina, bladder, or rectum drops from its normal position
  • Cystocele – a dropped bladder that presses into the vagina
  • Rectocele – a rectum that bulges into or through the vaginal wall
  • Enterocele – a bulge in the vagina caused by loops of the small bowel
  • Vaginal prolapse – when the top of the vagina drops, often after a hysterectomy
  • Urge incontinence – sudden, uncontrolled loss of urine, often with frequency, urgency, and nighttime urination
  • Stress incontinence – leakage during coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercise, or sexual activity
  • Fecal and flatal incontinence – uncontrollable loss of stool or gas

Procedures and treatments we offer

  • Nonsurgical care for urinary incontinence and prolapse, including behavioral and supportive therapies
  • Vaginal pessary fitting – a removable device that supports the uterus, bladder, vagina, or rectum
  • Minimally invasive transvaginal surgery for faster recovery and less discomfort
  • Uterine-sparing procedures – surgical repair without a hysterectomy
  • Surgery for cystocele, rectocele, enterocele, and vaginal prolapse
  • Treatment for all forms of urinary incontinence, both surgical and nonsurgical
  • Labiaplasty – reshaping of the inner and outer vaginal lips
  • Perineoplasty – tightening of the vaginal opening

Not sure which option is right for you? Your Summit Health specialist will guide you toward the treatment that best supports your comfort and long-term health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Consider making an appointment if you notice urine or stool leakage, a feeling of pressure or bulging in the pelvic area, frequent or urgent bathroom trips, or discomfort during daily activities. These symptoms are common, treatable, and worth discussing with an expert.

Your first appointment is a conversation. Your provider will review your symptoms and medical history, then perform a gentle physical exam. Together, you'll talk through your concerns and discuss possible next steps. There's no pressure to decide anything right away.

No. Many pelvic health conditions respond well to nonsurgical treatments, such as a pessary fitting or supportive therapies. Surgery is just one option, and we'll only recommend it when it's the best choice for your health and goals.

Urogynecology is a specialty that focuses on the female pelvic floor, the group of muscles and tissues that support the bladder, uterus, and rectum. Our urogynecologists have advanced training in both women's urinary health and pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Pelvic floor issues become more common with age, pregnancy, and childbirth, but that doesn't mean you have to live with them. Effective treatments are available at any stage of life.
