The feet and ankles are deceptively complex parts of the body. With 26 bones in each foot, nearly a quarter of the bones in the body are found in the feet. Each foot also has 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons.

So much intricacy to the foot and ankle musculoskeletal system carries the risk of many complications. A study of more than 75,000 people suggests that 24 percent of those in middle or older age report frequent foot pain, and 15 percent report frequent ankle pain.

Because of their complexity, when something goes wrong with the foot or ankle, it’s best to turn to medical professionals who specialize in foot and ankle conditions. At Summit Health, we have orthopedic surgeons and podiatrists with advanced training and years of experience who are dedicated solely to treating conditions of the feet and ankles.

Most people take thousands of steps a day, so your feet and ankles take a lot of wear and tear. And because many of the structures in the feet or ankles are delicate, traumatic events like accidents or falls can be especially damaging to the lower extremities. Our specialists are highly trained to treat both acute injuries and chronic conditions.

If your foot or ankle conditions are causing pain or limiting your mobility, call today for a consultation with a foot and ankle specialist and find out how Summit Health can help.
